The Arts Society – New Forest

Welcome to The Arts Society New Forest.  As a society we are interested in furthering our knowledge of the fine arts.  We meet on a regular basis to enjoy lectures on a range of topics, delivered by renowned speakers.  Our interests are extended further when we study subjects in greater depth and go out on day visits and breaks away, both in Britain and abroad.

An important aspect of our society is our aim to offer the opportunity, within an artistic framework, to young people from the local community to explore and extend their personal knowledge.  Conservation of heritage is important to us too. A group of our members regularly meet to record for posterity, the fabric and artefacts of local places of worship.

Our society is a local branch of The Arts Society , an international charitable organization.

If you visit any exhibitions or Art galleries it would be good if you would send a short review to me – Ruth Conway – that we could then publish on this website so our members would get ideas for visits (or places to avoid). There are currently 2 under reviews.

If you have any reviews,  ideas or suggestions please email them to :  ruth.conway@hotmail.co.uk

Tickets £50 (includes coffee/tea with biscuits on arrival and lunch)
The summer home of William Morris (1834-1896), Kelmscott Manor is a Grade I listed farmhouse, built around 1600, adjacent to the River Thames. Morris loved the manor house and adjoining farm buildings, considering them a work of true craftsmanship and in harmony with the surrounding countryside. Visitors today can still experience the beauty and seclusion that inspired many of his most important textile designs and writings, as well as influencing his ideas on conservation for both the built and natural environments.

TASNF Liverpool Residential Trip: September 2023
I have arranged for a slight change in our trip itinerary, as some of you would have visited Compton Verney on the Stratford U.K. trip this year. We were unaware of this when Liverpool was initially planned Spring 2022. We will therefore be stopping on our return journey at Coventry Cathedral for a 1.5 hour guided tour.                                                                                                          The history and rebuild of the Cathedral are very interesting including the stunning John Piper, stained glass windows.  There are numerous restaurants and cafes in the area, so you can choose to have a full lunch or snack before we continue home. There is a small reduction in the price on the flyer and booking form – the original cost of £659, which included a guided tour of Compton Verney and soup and sandwich lunch, has been reduced to £645 as we have decided it is probably better to let you choose your lunch needs. (Price assumes 25 in the group). I do hope, now the Christmas rush is over, that more of you can now book with Success Tours and pay the deposit of £75. Contact: Janet Handley’s email: janethandley01@gmail.com Finally, please note that the May lecture will now be held on Monday 22nd May 2023 due to the Coronation Bank Holiday – please amend your diaries. Best wishes on behalf of the committee.                                                                     Diana Heatly                                                                        Chairman
